The following petitions, memorials, and other papers, were laid upon the Clerk's table, under the 24th rule of the House, to wit:

By Mr. Barrett: The petition of Adolphe Renard, praying the payment of three hundred and seventy-five dollars for services rendered the United States government.

ment.

By Mr. Eliot: The petition of citizens of New Bedford, in the State of Massachusetts, for an appropriation for the erection of a customhouse and post office in that place.

By Mr. Lovejoy: The petition of a citizen of the State of Illinois, praying for a mail-route from Gardner Station to Tonica Station.

By Mr. Phelps: The memorial of the legislature of the State of Missouri-heretofore referred February 10, 1858.

By Mr. Barrett: The petition of several leading journals, praying a change in the postal laws.

By Mr. Thayer: The petition of Salem Larned, heir of Elijah Larned, praying a pension for services rendered in the war of the

revolution; which was referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions.

By Mr. Scott: The petition of A. W. Von Schmidt, Ralph Morris, and others, praying for the reimbursement of moneys expended by them in the survey of public lands of California.

By Mr. Isaac N. Morris: The petition of citizens of the State of Illinois-heretofore referred March 11, 1858;

Also, the memorial of citizens of the State of Illinois-heretofore referred January 26, 1858.

Ordered, That the said petitions be referred to the Committe on Public Lands.

By Mr. Hindman: Resolutions of the legislature of Arkansas, for additional land grant to the Fort Smith branch of the Cairo and Fulton railroad;

Also, resolutions of the legislature of Arkansas, for the relief of actual settlers on railroad lands; also, for the reduction of the price of government lands which have been ten years in market; also, for reduction to graduation rates of lands within railroad reserves.

Ordered, That the said resolutions be referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

By Mr. Miles: The petition of Ann Eliza Knight, widow and executrix of James D. Knight, praying payment of freight.

By Mr. Israel Washburn, jr.: The memorial of W. T. Smithsonheretofore referred February 3, 1858.

By Mr. Taylor: The petition of J. M. Miller, praying Congress to appoint a commission to examine his condenser.

By Mr. Rice: The petition of John T. Smith, praying Congress to authorize him to establish naval telegraph stations, and that he may be allowed compensation therefor.

Ordered, That the said petitions and memorial be referred to the Committee on Naval Affairs.

By Mr. Trimble: Four petitions of citizens of the State of Ohio, praying the imposition of specific duties on imported iron; which were referred to the Committee of Ways and Means.

By Mr. Hindman: Resolutions of the legislature of the State of Arkansas, praying an amendment of the Indian intercourse laws so as to allow transportation of liquor through Indian country.

By Mr. Etheridge: The memorial of Chauncey A. Horr, praying damages for losses sustained by Indian depredations.

Ordered, That the said resolutions and memorial be referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs.

By Mr. Babbitt: The petition of members of the bar of Erie county, in the State of Pennsylvania, praying for the establishment of a United States court at Erie, in said State.

By Mr. Blake: The remonstrance of citizens of the State of Ohio against the doctrines of Mr. Buchanan's message in relation to slavery in the Territories.

By Mr. Hindman: Resolutions of the legislature of the State of Arkansas, asking an appropriation for public buildings at Little Rock, in said State.
