Preamble.

WHEREAS, certain natural caves, known as the OREGON tionem ven CAVES, which are situated upon unsurveyed land within the Siskiyou Oreg. National Forest in the State of Oregon, are of unusual scientific interest and importance, and it appears that the public interests will be promoted by reserving these caves with as much land as may be necessary for the proper protection thereof, as a National Monument;

Now, therefore, I, William Howard Taft, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the power in me vested by section two of the Act of Congress, approved June eight, nineteen hundred and six, entitled, "An Act For the preservation of American antiquities," lo proclaim that there are hereby reserved from all forms of approoriation under the public land laws, subject to all prior valid adverse laims, and set apart as a National Monument, all the tracts of land n the State of Oregon shown as the OREGON CAVES NATIONAL MONUMENT on the diagram forming a part hereof.

A PROCLAMATION

Whereas, the Mukuntuweap canyon, through which flows the
North Fork of the Rio Virgin, or Zion River, in Southwestern Utah,
is an extraordinary example of canyon erosion and is of the greatest
scientific interest, and it appears that the public interest would be
promoted by reserving it as a National monument, with such other
land as may be necessary for its protection;

Now, therefore, I, William H. Taft, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the power in me vested by Section 2 of the Act of Congress approved June 8, 1906, entitled, "An Act for the Preservation of American Antiquities", do hereby set aside, as the Mukuntuweap National Monument, the Mukuntuweap canyon of the North Fork of the Rio Virgin, or Zion River, embracing Sections three, four, five, six, eight, nine, ten, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, twentyone, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-six, twenty-seven, twentyeight, thirty-three and thirty-four, Township forty South, Range ten, and all of the said canyon of the Rio Virgin, or Zion River, in Township forty-one South, Range ten, all west of the Salt Lake Meridian, Utah, as shown upon the diagram hereto attached and made a part of this proclamation.

Warning is hereby expressly given to all unauthorized persons not to appropriate, injure or destroy any feature of this National Monument, or to locate or settle upon any of the lands reserved by this proclamation.
