The reading and correction of the Journal began at this juncture. The further reading was dispensed with, by motion of the Senate.

House concurrent resolution No. 5 was called up by Senator Hodges, who moved its adoption.

Senator Quincy moved to amend by striking out the words. "Thursday, January 14," and inserting "Tuesday, January 19," which amendment was adopted.

Upon motion of Senator Quincy, the resolution, as amended, was adopted.

Senator Huffman moved that the Senate do now adjourn, which motion prevailed.

The following bills were introduced and read the first time: By Senator Hodges: Senate bill No. 68, An act to repeal section 18 of chapter 39 of the Compiled Laws of 1868, the same being section 34 of chapter 39 of the Compiled Laws of 1901, relating to the payment of jury fees in civil cases.

Also (by request), Senate bill No. 69, An act compelling railroads to construct passageways under bridges, etc., and providing penalties.

Also, Senate bill No. 70, An act to repeal chapter 359 of the Session Laws of 1895, the same being chapter 1156 of the General Statutes of 1901.

Also, Senate bill No. 71, An act to provide for the destruction of all noxious weeds on railroad rights of way, and to provide a penalty for the violation thereof.

Also (by request), Senate bill No. 72, An act authorizing

the secretary of the State Historical Society, to appoint additional employees.

By Senator Brady: Senate bill No. 73, An act making appropriation for the support of the University of Kansas and for certain buildings and improvements named herein.

By Senator Quincy: Senate bill No. 74, An act providing for the security of depositors in the incorporated state banks of Kansas, creating the state bank-depositors' guaranty fund of the state of Kansas, and providing regulations therefor and penalties for the violation thereof.

By Senator Glenn: Senate bill No. 75, An act apportioning the state of Kansas into representative districts.

By Senator Hamilton: Senate bill No. 76, An act making appropriation for the state printing plant for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1910, and June 30, 1911.

By Senator Price: Senate bill No. 77, An act to amend chapter 127 of the Session Laws of 1907.

Also, Senate bill No. 78, An act to amend chapter 126 of the Session Laws of 1907.

Senator Ganse moved that the Senate, as a mark of respect for the memory of the late Isaac E. Lambert, who lost his life in the Copeland hotel fire, do now adjourn, which motion prevailed.

By Senator Travis: Senate bill No. 80, An act relating to liens for labor and material furnished to owners of leaseholds for oil and gas purposes and for materials and labor for the construction of oil and gas pipe-lines.

By Senator Milligan: Senate bill No. 81, An act authorizing an annual conference of the state and local boards of health, providing for appointment of delegates and the payment of their expenses for attendance thereon.

By Senator Cambern: Senate bill No. 82, An act relating to actions for damages by the widow or next of kin of any deceased person, and supplemental to chapter 356 of the Session Laws of 1903.

Also, Senate bill No. 83, An act requiring the mayor and councilmen of cities of the second class to provide a room or rooms for the purpose of holding the courts of said cities.

By Senator Quincy: Senate bill No. 84, An act amending

sections 415, 418, 419 and 464 of the General Statutes of Kansas of 1901, relating to banks and banking, and repealing such original sections 415, 418, 419 and 464.

By Senator Stewart: Senate bill No. 86, An act making appropriations for the support of the St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kan., the Wichita Hospital and Training School for Nurses, at Wichita, Kan., the Wichita Children's Home, the Wichita Rescue Home, and St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum, Wichita, Kan.

Senate bill No. 54, An act in relation to the release of record of oil, gas and other mineral leases, providing civil remedies in connection therewith, and repealing chapter 314 of the Session Laws of 1905.

Senate bill No. 56, An act providing punishment for abandonment of husband, wife or children.

Senate bill No. 58, An act authorizing and empowering the

board of county commissioners of Allen county, Kansas, to construct two bridges across the Neosho river in the county of Allen, state of Kansas, and to levy a tax or otherwise provide for the payment of such construction.

Senate bill No. 62, An act providing for the inspection and management of hotels and public lodging-houses, defining hotels, and prescribing penalties for the violation of this act. Senate bill No. 63, An act concerning the code of civil procedure.

Senate bill No. 48, An act authorizing any city of the third class to issue bonds to fund its existing floating indebtedness. Senate bill No. 52, An act relating to cities of the second class, and repealing chapter 123 of the Laws of Kansas of 1907, and all other acts and parts of acts inconsistent and in conflict with this act, in so far as the same relate to cities of the second class which adopt the provisions of this act hereinafter provided.

Senate bill No. 78, An act to amend chapter 126 of the Session Laws of 1907, the same being entitled "An act authorizing cities of the second class with a population in excess of 10,000 to levy, in addition to other taxes prescribed by law, taxes for certain funds, fixing the maximum limits thereof, and prescribing the conditions incident to such levy."

Senate bill No. 77, An act to amend chapter 127 of the Session Laws of 1907.

Senate bill No. 61, An act amending section 1 and repealing sections 1 and 2 of chapter 136 of the Laws of 1903, the same being an act relating to cities of the second and third classes, and empowering such cities to obtain water, heat, light, power, etc., and repealing said sections 1 and 2 of chapter 136 of the Laws of 1903.
