Committee

ROCK ISLAND, ILL., Dec. 30, 1885. MESSRS. EDITORS: Thinking a few lines from Division No. 60 would be acceptable, I will make the attempt.

We are still living; business with us is very good, consequently the boys are feeling in excellent spirits. On the evening of the 24th inst. about sixty or seventy persons, consisting chiefly of engineers and their families, invaded the home of Brother James Mirfield, our genial foreman, and presented him and his excellent wife with a beautiful china set and silver service, consisting of one hundred and sixteen pieces, a carving knife and fork and two gold napkin rings, in honor of the 18th wedding anniversary.

After the presentation a bountiful supply of edibles was disposed of. The evening passed only too quickly, wth music and singing, until the time came for the good-nights to be said.

Now, Messrs. Editors, I would like to thank the members of Division No. 60 for the beautiful gift received at my house on the afternoon of the 21st inst. The "boys" entered my home and without a word of explanation, placed snugly in one corner a beautiful secretary and book case, most acceptable, not only for its usefulness, but from the source from which it came. A gift that will always be remembered with gratitude. Fraternally, J. Z. COLBurn.
