Mr. Reagan, from the same committee, reported a bill (H. Mr. De Witt C. Leach, from the same committee, to whom was referred the petition of George D. Dousman, one of the securities for William H. Bruce, late sub-Indian agent at Green Bay, in the State of Wisconsin, made a report thereon, accompanied by a bill (H. R. 729) for his relief; which bill was read a first and second time, committed to a Committee of the Whole House, made the order of the day for tomorrow, and the bill and report ordered to be printed.

On motion of Mr. De Witt C. Leach,

Ordered, That the Committee on Indian Affairs, be discharged from the further consideration of the petition of John Daly, and that the same be laid upon the table.

Mr. De Witt C. Leach, by unanimous consent, from the same committee, reported the following resolution; which was read, considered, and agreed to, viz:

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, requested to communicate to the House of Representatives a statement of the amounts paid to the Pokegan or other bands of Indians who were parties to the treaties of 26th and 27th of September, 1833, at Chicago, and who remained in the State of Michigan, either in money or goods, under the stipulations of the treaty made at the time and place aforesaid with the united nation of Chippewa, Ottawa, and Pottawatomie Indians, also the time and place of payment, and the parties to whom paid.

Mr. Longnecker, from the Committee on Military Affairs, reported a bill (H. R. 730) to provide for the payment of certain volunteer companies in the service of the United States in the war with Mexico, and in the suppression of Indian disturbances in New Mexico, accompanied by a report in writing thereon; which bill was read a first and second time, committed to a Committee of the Whole House, made the order of the day for to-morrow, and the bill and report ordered to be printed.

Mr. Burnett moved that the vote last taken be reconsidered, and also moved that the motion to reconsider be laid upon the table; which latter motion was agreed to.

Mr. Stanton, from the same committee, to whom was referred the petition of John Van Cott and Samuel Malin, of the Territory of Utah, made a report thereon, accompanied by a bill (H. R. 731) for their relief; which bill was read a first and second time, committed

to a committee of the Whole House, made the order of the day for to-morrow, and the bill and report ordered to be printed.

On motion of Mr. Stanton,

Ordered, That the Committee on Military Affairs be discharged from the further consideration of the petition of Horace E. Dimick, and that the same be laid upon the table.

Mr. Pendleton, from the same committee, to whom was referred the petition of William B. Dodd and others, made a report thereon, accompanied by a bill (H. The following petitions, memorials, and other papers, were laid upon the Clerk's table, under the 24th rule of the House, to wit:

By Mr. Burch: The tabular statement and other papers relative to the Indian war debt of the State of California; which was referred to the Committee on Military Affairs.

By Mr. John Cochrane: The petition of James Conner & Sons, L. Johnson & Co., and others, praying for a modification of the copyright law; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

By Mr. Vandever: The memorial of the Dubuque and Pacific Railroad Company, remonstrating against the passage of any law divesting them of their title to lands occupied by settlers; which was referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

By Mr. Helmick: The petition of citizens of the Territory of Kansas, asking a donation of thirty-six sections of land for the purpose of establishing a high school in said Territory; which was referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

By Mr. Sherman: The memorial of George W. Blunt, praying for increase of pay of officers of the navy; which was referred to the Committee on Naval Affairs.

By Mr. William Smith: The petition of William S. Colquohoun— heretofore referred January 11, 1859; which was referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

Mr. Hickman, by unanimous consent, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the bill of the Senate (S. 62) to amend the act to incorporate the Provident Association of Clerks in the civil departments of the government of the United States in the District of Columbia, reported the same without amendment. Ordered, That the said bill be read the third time.

It was accordingly read the third time and passed.

Ordered, That the Clerk acquaint the Senate therewith.

Mr. Hickman moved that the vote by which the said bill was passed be reconsidered, and also moved that the motion to reconsider be laid on the table; which latter motion was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Hickman, by unanimous consent,

Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be discharged from the further consideration of the bill of the Senate (S. 5) to supply vacancies in certain offices, and that the same be laid on the table.

Mr. Hickman, by unanimous consent, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the bill of the Senate (S. 148) concerning courts in the Territories, reported the same without amendment.
