June 3, 1856, to the North and South Alabama railroad, reported the same back without amendment.

Ordered, That the said bill be committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union, and printed.

Mr. J. Morrison Harris, from the Committee on Naval Affairs, reported a bill (H. R. 855) authorizing the Secretary of the Navy to purchase the right to use Davidson's boat apparatus; accompanied by a report in writing; which bill was read a first and second time, committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union, and the bill and report ordered to be printed.

Mr. Stanton, from the Committee on Military Affairs, reported a bill (H. R. 856) for the relief of James and R. H. Porter; which bill was read a first and second time, committed to a Committee of the Whole House, made the order of the day for to-morrow, and ordered to be printed.

Mr. Stanton, from the same committee, to whom was referred the bill of the House (H. R. 299) for the payment of the expenses incurred in the suppression of Indian hostilities in the State of California, reported the same back with an amendment in the nature of a substitute, accompanied by a report in writing.

Ordered, That said bill be committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union, and that the bill and report be printed.

Mr. Stokes, from the Committee on Invalid Pensions, to whom was referred the bills of the Senate of the following titles, viz:

S. 225. An act for the relief of Annie D. Reeves;

S. 268. An act for the relief of Mary K. Guthrie, widow of Presley N. Guthrie; and

S. 345. An act for the relief of Mary Walbach, widow of the late Brevet Brigadier General John De B. Walbach, of the United States army;

reported the same back severally without amendment.

Ordered, That the said bills be committed to a Committee of the Whole House, made the order of the day for to-morrow, and printed. On motion of Mr. Thaddeus Stevens, at 3 o'clock and 10 minutes p. m., the House adjourned.

SATURDAY, JUNE 23, 1860.

Mr. Davidson, from the Committee on Enrolled Bills, reported that the committee had examined and found truly enrolled bills of the following titles, viz:

H. R. 339. An act making appropriations for the legislative, executive, and judicial expenses of government for the year ending the 30th of June, 1861;

S. 199. An act to authorize the location of certain warrants for bounty lands heretofore issued; and

S. 295. An act for the relief of William B. Shubrick.

Mr. Larrabee, by unanimous consent, submitted the following resolution, viz:

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Interior be requested to communicate to the House the report of Mr. Pritchette, who was appointed to investigate certain charges against A. D. Bonesteel, Indian agent, together with the action of the department thereon.

Pending which,

Mr. Ellihu B. Washburne moved to amend the same by inserting after the words "together with" the words "the report of the counsel of the Indians, and;" which motion was agreed to.

The said resolution as amended was then agreed to.

Mr. McRae moved a reconsideration of the vote by which the bill of the House (H. R. 107) to authorize the Secretary of the Treasury to settle the accounts of Colonel William Gates was rejected. The said motion was passed over for the present.

A message was received from the President of the United States, by J. Buchanan, his private secretary, notifying the House that he did, on the 22d instant, approve and sign bills of the following titles, viz:

H. R. 500. An act making appropriations for the naval service for the year ending the 30th of June, 1861;

H. R. 847. An act authorizing a loan and providing for the redemption of treasury notes;

H. R. 424. An act for the relief of congressional township number six south, of range number eight west, in Randolph county, State of Illinois;

A message from the Senate, by Mr. Patton, one of their clerks: Mr. Speaker: The Senate have passed a bill of this House of the following title, viz:

H. R. 807. An act to authorize the reissue of land warrants in certain cases, and for other purposes;

with an amendment; in which I am directed to ask the concurrence of this House.

The Senate have also passed, without amendment, bills of the following titles, viz:

H. R. 848. An act authorizing the issue of a register for the brig Charles H. Jordan;

H. R. 814. An act providing for the erection of a post office in the city of Philadelphia;

H. R. 511. An act for the relief of E. George Squier, of New York. H. R. 231. An act for the relief of Isaac S. Smith, of Syracuse, New York; and

H. R. 622. An act to authorize notaries public in the District of Columbia to take acknowledgments of deeds of conveyance of real and personal estate therein.

The President of the United States has notified the Senate that he did, on the 22d instant, approve and sign resolutions and bills of the following titles, viz:

S. 497. An act to amend an act entitled "An act giving effect to certain treaty stipulations between this and foreign governments for the apprehension and delivery up of certain offenders;"

S. 500. An act for the relief of Lieutenant William A. Winder, of the United States army;

S. 507. An act for the relief of the California Stage Company; S. 508. An act for the relief of William Nelson;

S. 509. An act to grant to the city of Port Huron, Michigan, a part of the military reservation of Fort Gratiot for the enlargement of the city cemetery at that place.

And on the 21st instant, bills of the following titles, viz:

S. 206. An act for the relief of Emelie G. Jones, executrix of Thomas P. Jones, deceased, and Nancy M. Johnson, administratrix of Walter R. Johnson, deceased;

S. 307. An act to repeal the second section and other portions of an act passed the 2d day of June, 1858, entitled "An act to provide for the location of certain private land claims in the State of Missouri, and for other purposes."

The House having resumed, as the business first in order, the consideration of the bill of the House (H. R. 849) for the relief of J. and R. H. Porter, J. C. Irvine & Co., and Charles Perry & Co., the pending question when the House adjourned yesterday being on ordering the main question on its passage

The main question was ordered, and being put, viz: Shall the bill pass?

It was decided in the affirmative.

So the bill was passed.

Mr. Stanton moved that the vote last taken be reconsidered, and also moved that the motion to reconsider be laid on the table; which latter motion was agreed to.

Ordered, That the Clerk request the concurrence of the Senate in the said bill.

Mr. Bonham, by unanimous consent, submitted the following resotion; which was read, considered, and agreed to, viz:

Resolved, That the President be requested to furnish to Congress, at the beginning of its next regular session, all the information in

possession of this government, and also all that can be obtained in the meantime through our consular and diplomatic agents abroad, as to the disposition by the British government of the Africans captured from slavers by the British navy; and also as to the disposition by that government of the officers and crews of those slavers.

Mr. Israel Washburn, jr., moved that the rules be suspended, so as to enable him to submit the following resolution, viz:

Resolved, That the Committee of the Whole House be discharged from the further consideration of the Senate bill No. 191, "to provide for the quieting of certain land titles in the late disputed territory in the State of Maine, and for other purposes," and that it be postponed to the 2d Friday of December next, when it may be considered in the House, the rules being suspended for that purpose. And the question being put,
