Mr. Bouligny, by unanimous consent, from the Committee on Private Land Claims, to whom was referred the bill of the Senate (S. 378) to relinquish the title of the United States to certain lands occupied by the city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, reported the same without amendment.

Ordered, That the bill be read a third time.

It was accordingly read the third time and passed.

The bill of the Senate (S. 464) to amend an act entitled "An act in addition to the acts prohibiting the slave trade," with the message of the Senate notifying the House that the Senate had disagreed to the 1st amendment of the House thereto, having been taken upOn motion of Mr. Sherman,

Ordered, That the House recede from its said amendment disagreed to by the Senate to the said bill.

Ordered, That the Clerk acquaint the Senate therewith.

The House then proceeded to the consideration of the bill of the House (H. R. 44) confirming certain land entries under the third section of the act of 3d March, 1855, entitled "An act making appropriations for the service of the Post Office Department during the fiscal year ending the 30th of June, 1856," with the message of the Senate notifying the House that the Senate had disagreed to the amendment of the House to the amendment of the Senate thereto.

On motion of Mr. Cobb,

Ordered, That the House insist on its amendment disagreed to by the Senate to the amendment of the Senate to the said bill, and ask a conference with the Senate on the disagreeing votes of the two houses thereon.

Ordered, That Mr. Cobb, Mr. Trimble, and Mr. John G. Davis be the managers at the said conference on the part of the House. Ordered, That the Clerk acquaint the Senate therewith. Subsequently

A message was received from the Senate, by Mr. Patton, one of their clerks, notifying the House that the Senate insisted on its disagreement to the amendment of the House to the amendment of the Senate to the said bill of the House No. 44, agreed to the conference asked by the House on the disagreeing votes of the two houses thereon, and had appointed Mr. Johnson, of Arkansas, Mr. Bragg, and Mr. Harlan the managers at the said conference on the part of the Senate.

On motion of Mr. Sherman, by unanimous consent,

Ordered, That the bill of the House (H. R. 339) making appropriations for the legislative, executive, and judicial expenses of the government for the year ending the 30th of June, 1861, with the amendments of the Senate thereto, be referred to the Committee of Ways and Means.
