of the Post Office Department during the fiscal year ending the 30th of June, 1856.

The Senate have passed bills of this House of the following titles, viz:

H. R. 317. An act for the relief of Smith & Hunt, of Toledo, Ohio; and

H. R. 764. An act to change the times for holding the terms of the district court of the United States for the northern district of Alabama;

severally without amendment.

The Senate have agreed to the amendment of this House to the bill of the Senate (S. 228) for the relief of Valentine Wehrheim.

Mr. Train, from the select committee appointed under the resolutions of the House of March 5, 1860, reported the following resolution; which was read, considered, and agreed to, viz:

Resolved, That the Speaker of the House of Representatives be directed to issue process for the arrest of Charles A. Dunham, of New York city; Alexander Hay, Gideon G. Westcott, and Albert Schofield, of the city of Philadelphia; William Kearns, of Reading, in the State of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Vallandigham gave notice, under the rule, of his intention to move for leave to introduce a bill to regulate the mode of proceeding in contested elections in the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States.

Mr. Davidson, from the Committee on Enrolled Bills, reported that the committee had examined and found truly enrolled bills of the following titles, viz:

H. R. 317. An act for the relief of Smith & Hunt, of Toledo, Ohio;

H. R. 764. An act to change the times for holding the terms of the district court of the United States for the northern district of Alabama.

A message from the Senate, by Mr. Patton, one of their clerks: Mr. Speaker: The Senate have passed a bill of the following title,

viz:

S. 452. An act for the relief of Sylvester Gray;

in which I am directed to ask the concurrence of this House.

A message was received from the President of the United States, by J. Buchanan, his private secretary, notifying the House that he did, on the 7th instant, approve andsign a bill of the following title, viz:

H. R. 284. An act for the relief of John W. Taylor and certain other assignees of pre-emption land locations.

The House then resumed, as the regular order of business, the consideration of the report of the Committee of Elections in the Missouri contested election case; the pending question being on the resolutions reported from the said committee.

After debate,

Mr. Dawes moved the previous question; which was seconded and the main question ordered to be put.

On motion of Mr. Gartrell, by unanimous consent, Ordered, That there be a call of the House.

The roll having been called, the following named members failed to answer to their names, viz:
