Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 10, Relating to news

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 10, Relating to newspapers,

As amended by the House,

Was taken up for consideration.

The first amendment of the House was to strike out 25 and insert 50 copies.

A vote being had,

The amendment was not concurred in.

The second amendment was, that no papers be paid for only on lists filed with the Committee on Ways and Means. A vote being had,

The amendment was concurred in.

Mr. Schmidt offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Governor be requested to lay before the Legislature the report of the committee appointed by the last Legislature to provide an act for the assessment and collection of taxes.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Grimes offered the following rosolution:

Resolved, That a Special Committee of five Senators be appointed upon cities of the second class with power to report from time to time.

Which was adopted.

Mr. V. P. Wilson introduced

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 15, Relating to the cession of Fort Riley Military Reservation to the State of Kansas.

Laid over under the rules.

Mr. Schmidt introduced

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 16, Relating to printing the Governor's Message.

Laid over under the rules.

Mr. Morrill moved that the rules be suspended, and

The resolution be considered now, and

The resolution was then taken up for consideration.

Mr. Murdock moved to amend by inserting Scandinavian language, 2,000 copies; English, 2,000 copies; German, 2,000 copies.

Which amendment was adopted.

The question being upon the adoption of the resolution as amended,

A vote was had, and

The resolution was adopted.

Mr. Matheny introduced

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 17, Relating to postage stamps.

Laid over under the rules.

Mr. Matheny moved that the rules be suspended, and

The resolution be considered now.

Which motion prevailed.

Mr. Murdock moved to amend by striking out $5.00 and inserting $12.00.

Mr. Moonlight moved to lay the resolution on the table.
Which motion did not prevail.

The question being upon the adoption of the amendment offered by Mr. Murdock,

A vote was had, and

The amendment was lost.

Mr. York moved to amend by striking out $5.00 and inserting $8.00.

Pending the adoption of the amendment offered by Mr.

The following message from the House of Representatives was received and read:

MR. PRESIDENT: I am directed to inform the Senate that the House of Representatives has adopted

House Concurrent Resolution No. 4, Referring to Soldier's Bounty Land Bill, and

House Concurrent Resolution No. 5, In relation to mail routes,

And respectfully desire your concurrence therein.

Mr. Price moved to amend by adding the words "except those members who are in favor of retrenchment and reform."

Mr. St. John moved to amend the amendment offered by Mr. Price, by adding the words, "on the question of stamps.' Which amendment was adopted.

The question then being upon the resolution as amended,
A vote was had, and

The resolution was not adopted.

Mr. Murdock offered a memorial from the soldiers of Kansas.

Laid upon the table.

SPECIAL ORDER.

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 7, Memorializing Congress in relation to neutral lands,

Being the Special Order for 10 A. M.,

Was taken up for consideration.

Mr. Price moved to refer the resolution to the Committee on Judiciary.

Which motion did not prevail.

Mr. V. P. Wilson moved to refer the resolution to a Committee of the Whole.

Which motion did not prevail.

The question then being upon the adoption of the resolution,

A vote was had, and

The resolution was adopted.

The Committee on Printing asked further time to report on Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 1.
