The Journals of Thursday and Monday were read and approved.

Mr. V. P. Wilson offered a petition relating to the district court, in the eighth judicial district.

Further time was granted to the Committees on Fees and Salaries, Appropriations and Corporations.

MESSAGE FROM THE HOUSE.

The following message from the House of Representatives was received and read:

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 22:

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring therein :

That the Hon. John J. Ingalls, United States Senator elect, be and he is hereby invited to address the Legislature in Joint Convention on the questions now at issue, and attracting the attention of the people of the United States. And be it further

Resolved, That the President of the Senate is hereby requested to convey to Mr. Ingalls the notice of the passage of this resolution, and request him, if accepting the invitation, to name such time as will be most acceptable to himself. Which was laid over under the rules.

Mr. Edwards moved a suspension of the rules, and

The consideration of the resolution now.

Which motion prevailed, and

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 22, Inviting John J. Ingalls to address the Legislature in Joint Convention,

Was taken up for consideration.

The question being: Shall the resolution be adopted?

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof.

Mr. St. John introduced

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 23:

WHEREAS, Grave charges have been freely made during and since the senatorial election in this State, that the Hon. S. C. Pomeroy, with a view to securing his re-election to the

United States Senate, resorted to bribery and other corrupt means, and

WHEREAS, The sum of seven thousand dollars has been delivered to the President of the Senate of this State by Hon. A. M. York, which sum of money is stated and charged to have been paid by said S. C. Pomeroy to said Hon. A. M. York, a member of the Senate of this State, for the purpose of inducing the said A. M. York to vote for said Pomeroy for United States Senator, and

WHEREAS, Justice to the State as well as also to the Hon. S. C. Pomeroy, demand that these charges be speedily and thoroughly investigated to the end that the truth or falsity of the same may be fully ascertained; therefore by the Senate, the House concurring therein, be it

Resolved, That the Senate of the United States be respectfully requested to appoint a Committee to investigate said charges against Hon. S. C. Pomeroy, and immediately take such action as may be just to our State and the accused.

Resolved, Tnat the Secretary of State is hereby instructed upon the adoption of this preamble and resolution, to immediately forward a duly certified copy of the same to the President of the Senate of the United States with the request that the same be promptly laid before the United States Senate for its action thereon.

Mr. St. John moved that the rules be suspended and the resolution considered now.

Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 23, Relating to charges of bribery against S. C. Pomeroy, and asking the United States Senate to take immediate action,

Was taken up for consideration.

The question being: Shall the resolution be adopted?

The resolution adopted.

Ordered that the Secretary inform the House thereof

Mr. Topping offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That J. W. Edwards be and he is hereby appointed Postmaster of the Senate.

Which was adopted.

Mr. J. W. Edwards, Postmaster elect of the Senate, came forward and subscribed the following oath:

I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Kansas, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of Postmaster of the Senate to the best of my ability, so help me God.
