The chapters and paragraphs of this Supplement have been numbered to conform as closely as possible to the chapters and paragraphs of the Military Laws, containing the same general subject-matter.

New material has required two additional chapters in the Supplement-one (Chapter XLVIII) containing the legislation in regard to the General Staff Corps, and the other (Chapter XLIX) containing such legislation by the Philippine government as affects the Army.

All paragraphs referred to, unless otherwise stated, are those of the Military Laws of the United States (fourth edition) or of this Supplement.

[ocr errors]

Appendices A and B contain, respectively, The Hague conventions of 1899, relating to "Maritime warfare" and the "Laws and customs of war on land.”
